reviving radio

I never would hav thought our city would have most number of fm stations compared to any other city in the country. Its a very good sign of how bangalore is growing and how much impact it has made. I still remember the first radio station bac in childhood called Vividabharathi and which was quite fun to listen to it on mornings. But as we grew and so did technology and peoples mindset, the idiot box completely took over the radio life and radio was left for a mere existence to just to prove that a so called medium is available.

But thanks to the private stations, especially Radio City which bought bac life to it and there on it's history. But today the scenario is quite or rather completely different. Its good to have so many stations, but everything in life has a flipside too. And this one is not spared either, I have learnt that there would be total of 15 fm stations in less than 2 monts from now, but why so many stations? I fear that it might end up being an medium like television of today, where you just keep shifting channels and at the end you are completely dissatisfied with what you have been given at. Even right now, I have started doin that with the radio. I just keep changing stations as long as i get to hear some good music. Thats all matters to me.

And one thing, I am sure anybody would hate is the ads. More than the music and RJ's irrelevant discussions, we dont need ads. But cant help the same as its the only revenue model for these guys. But it could be limited tho. I have started hating Radio City only coz of its ads. On an average show of an hour, you would get here max of 7 songs and the rest would be ads and RJ's blabber. We dont need that. We need music. I need music to beat the traffic blues while driving. I am tired of these ads which keep shouting at your face. But offlate, Radio Indigo and Big Bangalore are quite good, would say they are really good. At Indigo, I get to hear some great international tracks and at Big Bangalore, its all about kannada and the local flavour. I like the fact, where this is the only station which plays some real good old kannada songs and their presentaion is quite neat. Thats what I would like to hear about. All said and done. Radio Rocks.

Anyways, I am keeping a close watch on these stations on how they grow and what stage it would reach. I am curios.
