April 12, 2006. the day we bangaloreans can never forget. I as a kannadiga cant even think of.
It was the saddest day in the history of karantaka, leave alone bangalore, coz one of the most talented actor, down to earth, simple, loving and a great human, Dr.Rajkumar, passed away. No matter how much I write here, or how much I describe this great human will be very less. This article is not abt what he was or what he did to be the man what he was, to reach such a great heights, where litereally thousands and thousands of people get on to the roads to just get a last glimpse of him.
I always used to wonder how many people would cry when I die. How many people would shed tears. I would say, very few. When I mean few, it would include my family, my close friends and some relatives who would just drop in for the heck of it. But what it takes to make an entire nation/state, millions of people to shed tears, rush towards your home to get a last glimpse. I am stil unable to figure that out, it cannot be just hard work, coz in this era, every other human is sloggin their ass off to sustain their livelihood. Then apart from hard work, what it would be? Money, Influence or Luck? I dont know wether it could be all. But in his case, it was just hard work and love of his people.
Its really sad to loose such a person. I grew up watching his movies, idolised him, used to worship him during my school days and wait for every sunday evening on DD channel for his movie. And imitating his stylised accent in front of girls to impress them.
This day, more than his demise, I am sad the way his so called fans paid their homage to him, thru the paths of riots and voilence and forcing everyone to close thier shops and destroying public and government properties and not even allowing the final rituals to be completed.
truly sad.
